performed by THE MARIAN TRIO
PIANO…Christopher Harrison………FLUTE…Heather Prestwich….CELLO…Imogen RexThe Marian Trio was formed in 2009 by three musicians who all share a link with the rich musical life of St. Mary’s Church in the Lacemarket, Nottingham. This programme explores the colourful and deeply evocative music of late 19th and early 20th century France, where the flute was fast developing into the romantic and virtuoso instrument we know today. Philippe Gaubert was one of the earliest and most successful exponents of this new and extrovert style of flute playing. He was greatly admired by Faure and conducted the famous Requiem at the older composer’s State funeral. Though the other two works in this evening’s programme were originally written for the traditional combination of piano, violin and cello, these new transcriptions of the Piano Trios of Faure and Debussy will surely delight.
